We left Las Perlas yesterday afternoon after a promise from the weather grib files that the wind was on it’s way !

After several hours of motor sailing in very calm seas, the wind filled in early evening building to 20-30knots through the night.

Another bouncy one and we were caught out by a couple of rogue waves on the beam, the last one hitting the boat and bouncing up high before landing, splat, in the cockpit and through all the open hatches !

Mark had got out of bed to see why we were rocking about so much and the wave caught him full on as he came up the steps. I was already in the cockpit and fully drenched too.

The sea has calmed a bit now and the wind steadied so we have the twistle rig up and we are sailing along at 7-8knots with a favourable current.

We are heading South to the equator to avoid the the Intertropical convergence zone (doldrums), and we will hopefully pick up Southerly trades and favourable tides after crossing the equator so that we can then set sail West to Galapagos.

There has been so much wildlife this trip, birds, dolphins and jumping rays that look like sharks fins.

Mark also caught a tuna for todays dinner. He managed to motor in reverse over my lure (again!) and so I got out my new pink feather lure and we had a bite almost straight away. Mark reeled it in and then turned it over to me for the messy bit !

Sun is shining and it is a beautiful day in the Pacific.
