Sunday 31st March 2013 – Easter Sunday !

Lo is kindly sending us weather forecasts each day and today the winds are looking favourable for an overnight trip to Port Suez, 170 miles.

We left South Quisim at 8am, crossed over the shipping lanes and set course to follow the East side of the shipping channels, a safe distance from the shipping and a safe distance from the numerous oilfields.

The motor went off at 1pm and we flew along with the Southerly winds at a steady 8 knots.

We were surprised to catch tuna at that speed !

To celebrate Easter we had egg cups full of mini chocolate eggs from Pete and Cadbury crème eggs, Lindt Chocolate bunnies and hot cross buns from the Jackamies – its nice to have crew bearing gifts !

The winds died during the early morning, as predicted, and we arrived at the entrance to the Suez at around 8.00am on Monday morning – April Fool’s day !

There was a small drama when the top of the cool box flew off as I prepared to lower the dinghy ready for mooring. We didn’t want to loose the top of our cleaning box so we turned around to practise our man overboard drill.

On reflection, probably not very sensible with the Pilot boat station, where the boats were leaving at high speed at the start of their working day, one side of us and a very large tanker on the other side !

However top retrieved successfully and we are now safely moored at the yacht and rowing club and we are being well looked after by Karkar.

Tuesday 2nd April

After a last minute call yesterday to our travel organiser, Heba, we have arranged a day trip to Cairo for our crew to visit the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum.

Since we are planning to transit the canal tomorrow Mark and I have have been busy with cleaning, refilling diesel and water and getting provisions.

As we are checking out of Egypt here in Port Suez we will not be able to go ashore in Ismalia.

The weather is still looking good for a departure into the Med on Friday to get to Crete before high winds set in on Monday… so fingers crossed !
