Gulf of Suez - South Quesim
Position 27:40.14N 33:44.173E Wednesday 31st October 2012 – Another trip crossing the shipping lanes to the West side of
the All of the anchorages are within or beside coral reefs
giving some protection from the waves but not from the wind, it is strange not
to be anchored in the lee of a cliff or high headland. A motor yacht offering kite surfing holidays also shared the
anchorage and their guests were out playing the next day. We swam and snorkelled but the highlight of our stay had to
be sports day on the sand followed by a barbeque organised by Sue and David
from ‘Gwen L’. Three legged races were a hit although definitely more
practise needed. Andy & Michelle romped home to win the challenge, pictured
below with their prize shell. The prizes were very inventive and all sourced on the island,
a shell, one rather fashionable flip flop and a pair of attractive blue Y
fronts which would have matched Andy’s outfit perfectly ! The photos below may look rather random and confusing but we
are playing rounders of course ! Several barbeques were assembled early evening and everyone
contributed a salad so we had quite a feast washed down with a few glasses of
wine. To round off the evening the men lit a roaring fire from
various pieces of driftwood that they had gathered earlier. We certainly didn’t need to get close to keep warm but
it did keep away any insects. Next day we departed for Hurghada. Blue Magic became tow vessel Blue Magic again as Suleika’s
engine had finally given up ! On the charts it looked like quite a tricky passage through
lots of reefs but in practise there was plenty of room, besides, the reefs were
not visible giving an impression of clear water. It was exciting to see signs of civilisation again as we approached
the marina and it was lovely to eat out in one of the marina restaurants that
night, Suleika’s treat ! Shae – you should be working and not wasting time
reading this blog ! |
