We started our adventure at 6.30am with our driver, Sana and Andrew, our guide.  It was a whole day travelling to Nuwara Eliya and we enjoyed the trip, taking in the scenery and stopping to stretch our legs at an impressive waterfall. We stopped for Sri Lankan Curry and rice for breakfast and lunch !

The last 11 km was a bit scary, climbing high on narrow roads with several mudslides and weaving through busy villages with buses and tuc tucs trying to overtake us at every turn.

We stayed at the Hill Club the first night, a members club with a distinctive colonial atmosphere straight out of a past century including all the original rules such as Jacket & tie and proper shoes for dinner. As you can see we forgot the socks !

It was a bit chilly that night and we were given a tiny one bar electric fire for our room straight out of the 1930’s.

When we retired at the end of the evening we were surprised to find steaming hot water bottles in our beds so we had a very cosy night !

The next morning we visited a tea plantation and had a tour around the tea factory followed by a tea and cake in the restaurant before purchasing some tea from the shop. It was a delightful setting and the tea was delicious.
