Day 4 Galapagos

Position 02:35.36N 85:14.14W Day 4 of our passage and we have 366 miles to go, approx 2
days to Galapagos. We are nearing the equator but our heading is South West so
we don’t expect to cross it until tomorrow afternoon. Although this passage is notorious for it’s lack of
wind, so far we have had good winds and current and we are still sailing along
at around 8 knots. Boats who left ahead of us have been suffering with no wind
at all and we are quickly catching them up, let’s hope we bring the wind with
us. Yesterday we had a call from ‘Roundabout’ to say
they had a fire on board ! They traced the smoke to the bilges and used a fire
extinguisher to put out flames coming from low down in the boat. We have assumed it was the bilge pump shorting out and they
have isolated the power to that and everything else appears ok. Fire on board is the worst scenario and all the crew on ‘Roundabout’
were a bit shocked and worried so we altered course and slowed up, along with
Jackamy, to converge with ‘Roundabout’ in case they needed any
help. Yacht Raylah arrived on the scene first as she was the nearest boat and
took David & Joe and the crew under their wing. It is nice to know there is
support around you. A peaceful night and all is well this morning, we can see
Jackamy and Roundabout and we also have another yacht in sight – could this
be an imposter in our convoy ? There is a bit of cloud this morning and it is getting very
humid and tropical as we head South. |
