El Rompido is next stop as it has been recommended by Lynn & Kev, who came here a few weeks ago for the golf.

We timed the entrance for high water as, according to the pilot book, the sand bank is always moving and the buoys are regularly moved by the locals to update the channel. They were not wrong !

When the depth crept as low as 0.5M below our keel, we decided that maybe the buoys were misplaced and we turned to follow the chart plotter.

Luckily, a local motor boat began whistling at us and signalled to follow them, sure enough the buoys were correct and we followed a route over the land according to the chart plotter !

A local motor boat guided us into the river.

Once inside the river we motored 4 miles inside a narrow, natural lagoon with beaches and villages one side and sand dunes the other until we reached the marina.

Once moored we went ashore and wandered, the supermarket was closed and only opened in the mornings – doh!

Mark spotted a sign for Carrefour which said 4km so we thought we would take some exercise and walk there.

The sign was wrong !

2 hrs later Mark was desperate and trying to hitch a lift, needless to say no one stopped !

10kms and 2 ½ hours later, we staggered into Carrefour.

We couldn’t remember what we wanted and we didn’t care !

Carrefour or just another mirage ?

After cooling down and finding some water we were finally re energised and did our shopping.

Much confusion then ensued at the information desk in Carrefour to arrange a taxi back to the marina where we then found an abandoned wheelbarrow to help take the shopping down the long pontoon !
