Friday 26th October 2012 – Sheratib Reef

Another gentle downwind sail, crossing the shipping lanes, to anchor on the East Coast of the Gulf of Suez.

A rather interesting anchorage sheltered by an underwater reef with an oilfield on the other side so that it felt as if we were moored in the middle of the oilfield !

A pilot boat visited the yachts warning that we were not allowed to leave our boats, although Mark did some more bottom cleaning and I swam on the treadmill of current sweeping past the boat.

It was a rolly night so we headed off early morning with the rest of the fleet, past two shipwrecks which ominously marked our passage out of the anchorage.

Oil platforms to one side and, through the centre of the anchored yachts, the two listing, wrecked ships sit in the background.

Starting to get stir crazy – haven’t been on land for over a week …….
