Mumbai is very much like London with it’s old impressive buildings, red buses and railway station. Although there is no cricket ground in central London!

The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel below on the harbour front.

We wandered through the city passing the grand Victorian buildings of the University of Mumbai, the High Court and several Museams and Art Galleries.

The Oval Maiden cricket ground, surrounded by palm trees, used to be on the waterfront in Victorian times before more land was reclaimed.

We also went into the old Victoria Terminus train station, now renamed Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus, a huge Gothic building with stained glass windows.

Remember the last scene from ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ with everyone bollywood dancing on the train platform ?

Interesting facts about Mumbai:

Number of people passing through the train terminus daily 2.5million

Number of people in an 1800 person capacity train at rush hour 7000

Number of public toilets for every 1 million people 17

Population density 29,000 people per square kilometre
