Island Treking

We did some reading about the island and found out that there is a walking route from the harbour right across to the other side of the island with a viewpoint from the top and a waterfall the other side.

So Sunday morning we all set out for our trek. Sandie only had flip flops but the route was supposed to be easy so no problem.

Well we walked for over an hour before arriving at the car park marking the start of the route !

Malc and Sandie decided to turn back which turned out to be a very sensible decision as the route was by no means easy and would have been impossible in flip flops !

It took us another hour to climb to the top of the ‘Needle’ marking the half way point.

The climb was quite exhausting, half way up we met a chicken that followed us all the way up to the top without any problem !

We met a local guy as we got to the top and he guided Mark around the face of the needle, holding onto chains set into the rock.

That was the point at which I chickened out (excuse the pun), but me and the chicken were much more comfortable watching and having a well earned rest !

The local man advised us not to continue the second half of the route as it was much more overgrown and therefore darker and we didn’t have much time before sunset.

We took his advice and followed him back down the climb, just another couple of hours before we arrived back at Blue Magic, tired, muddy, hot and hungry !
