On Saturday we picked up a rental car and drove into St Johns for lunch and then out to the airport to pick up Helen and Ethan. We arrived a little early and wandered around the area, to find the Antigua Cricket Ground and a super Sports and Athletic Facility and even the Stanford Bank all built by the now disgraced, and an Ex Knight, Allen Stanford.

 

He was found guilty of running a Ponzi Scheme, basically an “investment scheme” that pays out excellent returns at regular intervals and seems almost too good to be true. And of course, it is – the dividends are paid with new investor funds and when they dry up or slow down, everyone wants their money out – but it’s all too late – he’s spent the lot.

 

Not sure what his mess of legacy will leave, apart from a trail of cheat, lie, steal, deception and broken dreams. But the ground is superb and the names on the wall of fame even I know as a non cricketer – such a shame – I hope something can come from it for the good of the people of these beautiful islands.
