Saparua was nice, but a little disorganized. Since we are following the Eastern Indonesian Rally we sail for the proposed anchorage. The proposed anchorage in Saparua was, however, not tenable, so we ended up in a beautiful bay next to Haria village on the west coast of Saparua Island. The organizers found us anyway, and gave us a nice reception and a guided tour around the island. We visited a Muslim community to demonstrate the brotherhood between Christians and Muslims on the islands ( which didn't stop them from trying to kill each other a few years ago). Today it really seems quite peaceful. There were also many other highlights, but the dancing and the music was not quite up to the extremely high standard we have come to expect in the Molukas. We are truly getting spoiled rotten.
Tomorrow the program start here in Ambon. This is a regional center of importance with a lot of history. Some of it is quite bloody including in 1999 when 5000 people were killed in religious riots. We do feel safe, however, and look forward to both the cultural displays and the antique artifacts that are here. More is coming soon.
