To get down here from Whangarei we have been sailing through one of New Zealand's major sailing grounds, the Hauraki Gulf. It is easy to see why the Kiwis are enthusiastic about this area. A multitude islands, scores of beautiful anchorages, nice walks with pretty views all around. The season is coming to an end here, but during our mini cruise we have met boats we know well from the Pacific, Minarette, Prozyon and Jade. Our favourite spot so far? Kawau Island complete with an old mansion house set in a picture perfect cove and with beautiful trails.
We are currently in the centre of Auckland with a nice view up to the Sky Tower. A view that is, when it is not cloaked in a heavy squall with hail. Winter i coming and it is time to move north.
