Dirt dwelling!

First there was the engine problem, press the start button and nothing happens! Then the inverter fried itself.... so with no means of bulk charging the batteries and the fridge and freezer full of food we decided to move ashore.
We have rented a charming two bedroom cottage, 200 years old, equipped with big fridge/freezer, washing machine, bath etc. So we have left the boat with only the AIS and bilge pumps switched on. Sad to be removed from the Cruising community but probably better for our livers.
Thanks to Trevor from Slow Flight we have progressed the engine problem enormously. We cleaned all the negative terminals from the battery to the engine, no joy. We then jumped straight from the battery to the block...bingo! So then moved from the battery towards the engine and found the culprit, the cable from the bus bar to the block. The inverter on the other hand....a burnt out resistor on one of the boards, no idea how I fix that!
But even with a perfect boat, still the question is where do we go? Every time I check the story is slightly different but all bad! Here in one of the hotels I found this notice....
