One of the delights of Polynesia is that people really do use outrigger canoes. You see them out on the water all the time and it is a major sport here. So I was keen to have a go! We hired one for a morning and all had a go. Really great fun and remarkably unstable! But everyone had a go and enjoyed the experience. There was a sand bank a metre below the surface in the lagoon which was ideal for learning!
The insurance assessor came round and made his report....we are awaiting a response...and suggested we went immediately to the boat yard on Raiatea. He organised us a tow out of the lagoon and into the next lagoon. We are now at the yard awaiting repairs. Apparently tomorrow, we shall see...
The sail over here in very light winds was fantastic we flew a sail combination we hadn't used before...see photograph below...
