Seafood Galore
While the weather remains cold, we have been entertaining ourselves with
food! The beautiful, readily available seafood in the Bay of
Islands.
Further to last weeks oysters, this week, we dug for pippi’s, a small white
mussel/ cockle that comes in two types. Both delicious, when steamed in white
wine and garlic.
These little shells are very easy to pick up at low tide, just under the
sand. But you need to know where – thanks to our local intel.
We had a glorious afternoon on the back of Mermaid Explorer (another
Nordhavn) enjoying the pippi’s and also different oyster presentations, thanks
to Gerri.
And it did not stop there! Next day Greg from Liberty IV gave us a bag of
huge green lipped mussels and then him and Mike went fishing for Snapper.
We are now heading out of the bay, on our way south heading towards the
Great Barrier island, with a stop or two along the way.
