Green Turtle Cay Island Roots Heritage Festival

Green Turtle is geographically a very interesting cay - with two sounds (lagoons) - White sound with two nice marina's and Black Sound with more average docking and a big boat yard. Both are hurricane holes - and if you have access to Google earth, zoom in and have a look. In the middle of the two sounds is the town - Plymouth.

Today we attended this festival in Plymouth - although there was some focus on crafts and genealogy - Pirates were dominant!  ARRGGGGGHHHH!!  The islands are embracing the history of the pirate republics of the 1700's. One Charles Vane was the pirate who is thought to have fled Nassau for Green Turtle Cay.

All shapes of Pirates - and of course those with their own golf carts - the common mode of transport here

The Royal Bahamian Defence force was here with their band - there were many dignitaries, and I even got to meet the Prime Minister of the Bahamas - The Right Hon. Hubert A Ingraham - a very friendly and approachable man!
