Nassau, New Providence Island
We have spent a short time here - doing some
re-stocking, visiting downtown and saying farewell to Willy and
Frauke.
Yesterday we took the jitney (bus) downtown to the
cruise ship/ touristy area where we wandered around, enjoying some people
watching and curio shopping. After lunch, while Frauke and I checked out
the merchandise in the infamous party spot Senor Frog, the guys watched a man
doing wood carving with an Estwing axe. (Mike has one of these, and I expect a
flurry of carving soon)
Later the afternoon we visited the Logos Hope book
ship and bought a few more kg's of paper to weigh Indigo down! Those
following our travels will remember us visiting the book ship in St Lucia last
year. Hope is the new ship of this religious group of volunteers who sail
the oceans, selling over-runs of books to raise funds for their cause. Great
bargains for the bookworm on board!
Just hanging around.. people
watching
Hard to believe this is the colour of the water in a major
port!
We headed back to the boat for dinner and another
spectacular sunset and moon rise - Nassau always seems to deliver these. Willy
has more photos on his camera of the sunsets and moon rises that I though
possible!
Here is Willy squeezing in the last of
his project ... polishing all the brightwork, while Frauke enjoys the view from
the coachroof.
Sadly this morning we said our good-byes and the
Learmonths headed to the airport to catch their flight back to Miami
and then on to London. The boat is very quiet now, and we are just relaxing,
considering our next destination. It is the Easter weekend, all the stores
will be closed and the people of the Bahamas will be heading out on their boats
to the nearby islands. Perhaps we will head back to the northern Exumas
before moving north to Spanish Wells.
