Annette's Birthday in Bequia

We sailed up to Bequia on the 6th to join our friends on s/v Nordlys - for Annette's 60th birthday. We started talking to them on the SSB radio a little way out of Cape Town and then met them in St Helena and again in Ascension island where we toured the islands together.  Back in March, David had invited us to this birthday, but we did not believe that we would actually make it. We were at that time planning to be in Venezuela in December. However, our plans changed and we were thrilled to join them for the festivities here in Bequia - which have been a few days worth!

Joining the party were 2 catamaran loads full (16 people) from their home town Lymington in the UK who came out for two weeks. There were also some Germans, Trinidadian and other British friends who also live on yachts who had become friends along the way. David & Annette's son, daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren where also here!  Our social life has been a blur! We have had some beach side lunches, a cocktail party hosted by the Trini's and their local friends at a beautiful villa in La Pompe, a dinner on our boat and then finally the big birthday lunch yesterday.  The anchorage looked stunning as 3 of the yachts were flying all their flags to celebrate the birthday. We took a leisurely 20 minute stroll over the hill to the lunch, which was at a beautiful boutique hotel called the Firefly. (Sister hotel to the one on Mustique) We were welcomed with ice cold drinks, rum punches in coconuts and a very refreshing swim in their pool.

Later on we sat down to a wonderful 3 course meal ...all 26 of us.  It was very festive as many of the friends had prepared speeches, poems and songs for Annette, which apparently is an old Danish tradition.  Mike and I have felt very privileged to be included in this wonderful celebration.

Our next stop will be St Lucia....
