Zip-lining in Bastimentos
Today Mike and I went for a jungle adventure on the
island of Bastimentos (still in the Bocas Del Toro archipelago) This
canopy tour takes you high up into the jungle where you get kitted out with a
harness, gloves, helmet and 'hand-brake'. You are then given some
instruction and up you climb into the jungle canopy.
The zip-lines are cables that are strung from tree to
tree about 75m above the ground. You get attached with a pulley system and off
you go flying through the jungle like Tarzan. Your right hand has a thick
leather break, that you use to pull down on the cable to slow yourself
down. This tour had 5 zip-lines and a few other exciting extras - all high
up in the trees - all to be crossed, with the safety of the harness system. The
adrenaline was pumping as we walked across a cable tightrope, climbed
a set of hanging stairs, got lowered on a rope down a tree and walk
on very unstable suspended poles. I though Mike had a fear of heights, but on
our last zip-line he was free-styling, trying it upside down! What a fun
day!
