Preparing for haul out
So it’s been heads down, focussing on the jobs list, preparing Macushla for haul out. Our new “wheels” made life a whole lot easier, enabling us to get to our preferred artisans who are spread across various suburbs of Auckland. The sails were taken off and away for servicing; the deck gear was stripped off; the running rigging was taken down and washed; the anchors were taken for re-galvanising; the DuoGen wind & water generator and the Hydrovane wind steering system have been removed from the stern; and the electrics have been disconnected at the mast. Phew! Despite our manic schedule we had a long-booked treat in the form of a cinema screening of Tosca performed by the New Zealand Opera Company – absolutely brilliant. We had an early morning haul out booked and left our Westhaven marina berth as a stunning dawn broke over the city. In no time at all Macushla’s mast was removed and she was heading into the paint shed. The new “wheels” handy for carrying sails, anchors and what have you: Our Airbnb “home” for 2 nights: |
