Soon after arriving in Auckland we were delighted to hear about the Lantern Festival which celebrates the Chinese New Year.  This year because of its increased size, instead of being held in downtown Auckland, it was relocated to The Domain, a large park on the outskirts of the city.

We jumped on the bus and headed over there in the afternoon and enjoyed a wonderful celebration of Chinese culture.  The lanterns were amazing, both in daylight and at night, and in addition there were displays of dancing, singing, music, martial arts and gymnastics.  A very family friendly affair with lots of stalls selling delicious Asian food and drink including yummy vegan options!
