We have had a wonderful couple of days anchored off Charlotte Amalie, the capital of St Thomas.  It has been great to catch up with our dear friends Marce and Jack (s/v Escape Velocity) who have been here a few weeks and showed us round the town and its many attractions. This is a free port, so Duty Free shopping provides a large proportion of its income and we understand that, at times, there are up to six cruise ships berthed here. However, during our stay there have been none in town, so we’ve had the place to ourselves and were able to wander through the delightful maze of historic alleyways with ease.

We were stunned by the size of the retail operation here and the large number of jewellery and gem shops all competing for business and can only imagine it’s a very different place when the ships are in port.

Being back in the Caribbean we are now finding vegan food much more readily available, including the Natural Livity Juice Bar here.  Wherever there are Rastafarians we know we can eat well.
