We’re delighted to report that we made landfall just after first light in a stunning and peaceful bay on the north coast of Hiva Oa, after 2950 miles and 19 days at sea.

With the exception of a couple of days towards the end of our trip, we had a very comfortable ride and once again Macushla took excellent care of us.  We sailed most of the way with 2 reefs in the mainsail and set ourselves a very conservative target of 150 miles a day, to ensure we didn’t put too much stress on the rig and ourselves.

One of our pilot guides for the South Pacific is called Landfalls in Paradise – how very apt!
