With the arrival of favourable NE winds we left Portland at first light, heading for the Cape Cod Canal.  We were treated to one of those gorgeous Maine sunsets as we were settling in for the overnight passage which seemed a fitting end to our time here.

Arriving at the Cape Cod Canal at first light, we were just in time to catch the last of the ebb current through.  You have to motor through the canal and it’s compulsory to hold your breath every time you go under a bridge – they always look to be too low!

With the winds holding into the afternoon, we were able to continue sailing out of Buzzards Bay and had a fast downwind sail all the way to Block Island, RI where we anchored in Great Salt Pond just as the light was fading.  Arrival beers, quick dinner and early to our bunks.
