Working my way east towards Turkey I have been looking for islands I haven't visited before. Syrna is tiny and not even in the cruising guide.
Not much of a photo. I thought the island would be inhabited as the chart shows two anchorages and three chapels or churches. They are there but the island isn't inhabited.
The charting of the anchorages is misleading as it shows a gently sloping beach. As I went over the charted 5mt contour my depth sounder was still showing 60mts. The minimum depth I found was 18 mts which was only 20mts off the rocky shore. I could probably have anchored close in and taken a line ashore but if something had gone wrong the nearest help was 20nm away.
I decide to carry on to Nisos Tilos which was a pity as it is not often you have a chance to have an island to yourself.
