Checking out of Russia was quite a complicated
affair and would have been a nightmare if we had not had Russian speakers with
us. We decided to check out of Russia here and miss going to Murmansk because it
was simpler to do it before we left the rally. We are therefore going straight
to Kirkenes in Norway which is about 400nm.
We had 3 immigration officers on board who wear
blue uniforms and one customs officer who wore a green uniform. It took them
about half an hour but would have been a lot longer if we hadn't had the help of
an agent/translator.
We left Archangelsk at about 1600 and set off in a
convoy down the 30nm channel top the White Sea. One of the liaison officers
dressed for the part to wave her goodbyes.
