In a previous post I mentioned we were anchored in Pt Genoveses which is on the East side of Cabo de Gata. There were four of us anchored there and we had a pleasant evening in a very calm bay. At midnight I woke up to a very different situation with a strong wind blowing straight in and quite a rough sea. Two boats had already left and although I am sure our anchor would have held it seemed sensible to follow their example.

Probably the best thing to have done would have been to go into St Jose marina which was only 3 nm away but I decided to sail against the wind to Garrucha and beat into the weather. It took 12 slightly uncomfortable hours to make the 33nm into Garrucha.

When we got in I checked my emails and my friend Manuel had sent me an email the previous evening warning me about the weather change! He also told me he was sailing his Beneteau 32.5 Kibo with its new owner south to Aguilas. The new owner was then going to carry on south which he had as when I looked on the next pontoon there was Kibo.

I took the opportunity to admire all the work Manuel had done on her. She sports a small bowsprit and an adjustable solar panel which doubles up as an aerofoil.
