We arrived here at 7.30 last night. The last part
of a trip always seems to take longer than you expect.
 Passing Tarifa. At this point we had about 3kts of
tide/current with us.
The only problem during the trip from Lagos, apart
from a lack of wind, was that I ran over the remnants of a fishing net floating
on the surface. This got wrapped around the propeller and slowed the engine down
for a while whilst the rope cutter chewed it up and spat out most of it. I
thought I had got away with it until I went to reverse into my berth here and
the engine would only turn the prop very slowly. I have organised for a diver to
come and have a look. Hopefully, once the remains of the net are cut away all
will be well.
I always like to do a summary of a trip so here
goes;
Plymouth to Gibraltar via Coruna, Camarinas,
Baiona, Ria de Aveiro, Viana do Castelo, Nazare, Cacais and Lagos. 1st September
2011 to 24th September 2011
Distance though water: 1,204nm
Distance over the ground: 1,185nm
Engine hours: 124
Fuel used: 274lts
Fuel consumption 2.2lts per hour
For those interested the engine is a Volvo 2030
with a Maxprop usually cruising at 2,200rpm which gives approx
5.5kts.
