As promised we had an excursion around the island which is a museum and a designated world heritage site. I took a photo of the layout plan.

It is the largest of several small islands in the lake. Some of the ancient buildings here are in their original location anbd others have been brought in  so that they can be preserved. The island originally had two churches and a separate bell tower which was added later.

The main church is on the left. It has some scaffolding on it at the moment. The bell tower is in the middle and the small church on the right. The small church was used in winter as it was easier to heat. Inside the small church there are a series of icons, some very ancient.

We went on to look at a farmhouse. It seems that the house, barn, hay store and workshops were incorporated into one building.

There are several chapels which have been moved to the island

It is interesting that they seem to have a belltower as well as a spire.

This is the oldest building which is reputed to go back to the 14th Century.

We returned to our boats at about 2100.

We leave in the morning at 1000 or that was the plan but as I write this it is 10 past and no sign of anything happening yet. I had a long chat with one of the organisers last night and it seems everywhere we go the bureaucrats are making difficulties largely because there are no precedents for a trip like this.
