Here’s a couple of photographs that the photographer on the boat took.

 

 

When the whales dive a turbulent patch is left behind.  If they are interested or just mooching around they will then come back up.  It’s the turbulent patch that the whale watchers crew spot and then take the boat to.  You can see what I mean in this sequence.. Just gone under, turbulent patch

And finally, one of the things you are supposed to do is wave at the whale.  Does it encourage a fin wave back?  Is that fin waving back? Who knows.  Here’s one of the crew in action
