After two days in the pouring rain we left Te Anau for Queenstown.  We were supposed to do the Milford Sound cruise today but the road was closed due to snow.  Not even the coaches were getting through.  Very wintery grassy tussock country.

Rained and snowed along the way.

Views along Halfway bay – the southern arm of Lake Wakatipu.

A wiggly windy road along the lake shore.

Just before Queenstown is a small mountain range called the Remarkables.  Here they are looking to the north, face on (east)

Looking south.

We travelled the 180 odd km from Te Anau to Queenstown in a freezing motorvan.  Couldn’t get the heating to work.  Phoned up Britz, who have a hire centre here, and told to take the van there.  Turns out radiator had bust.  They couldn’t replace it as they had to send the van to Fiat dealer.  Paul not amused.  We have a replacement van.  All a lot of messing around though.  Wasted half a day while they cleaned another vehicle blah de blah.  Still really miserable weather.
