24 hour sailing report

The wind speed has decreased through the night from 25 knots down to 10 knots, the direction has not changed from 100 to 144 degrees.

This has made the sailing slow again as shown by the decrease in noon to noon distance.

We sailed the night with the genoa and main fully out, the boat speed was however only about 4.5 knots.

No rain over the last 24 hours. However we have had more rain squalls pass to the North of us yet again.

Not much wild life day today, just flying fish and a few sea birds. One more flying fish found on deck. You have to get them off the bat as soon as you find them as they smell!!!

We are now sailing in company with three other boats, Moin a German boat about 40 feet long, and Marite 111 also 40 feet and Karacool the 53 foot CAT who is also one of our group boats.

We all left within about an hour of each other. Karacool is now 181 miles ahead of us in Oyster Moon. Moin is about 87 miles behind with Marita 111 about 69 miles behind us.

We have a system called AIS which if another boat is also fitted with the same system gives details of the vessel name, call sign, direction and speed. On the bigger vessels it also gives the destination.

Over the last 24 hours we have had two very large vessels pass us heading for Barbados, one was 44 m long and the other was 70 m long. They must either be going to meet up with their owners for the Christmas New Year break in the Caribbean.
