After disappointing trip to Franz Joseph we drove down to Okarito and visited the beach.  More trees but here is Paul standing on the beach.  The cliff behind him is either river debris.

Decided to walk up to the trig point.  Very steep hill.  Paul takes a rest, I think he was moaning at this point, something about trig and hill.

Some sort of climber and some nice tree ferns

I’d just arrived at the trig point huffing and puffing and swearing when a bloke arrived running.  Turns out he was the kiwi guide – as in guide to kiwi – just come up to stretch his legs and check his stoat traps.  Views from the trig point: Okarito spit and the wetlands behind, you can just make out the van; and, Fox glacier way way away.

This is the famous (?) white heron, you can go on a tour. … This one was crossing the marsh when we got to the bottom of the walk.  Don’t have to do that tour now.

It decided to cross over the walkway.  Really long neck and fluffy feathers.

Memorial to the memory of the ‘pioneer host’, nice way to put it.

And various others

These speak for themselves.  You can hire the hut, it can sleep 10!  We peaked inside and bunk beds were in tiers of three.
