These are all views of the Glass House Mountains from the Glass House mountain Lookout (there’s a surprise!).  We came back a couple of days later and had a BBQ with Annie and Stephen.  I think this is Mt. Beerwah on the left.  RHS is Mt. Coonawrin.

Lots of the trees have pine cone fruits.

You can do a short circular walk around the lookout.  Only 800 m a bit up and down but damn near killed me.  The heat was amazing – like walking in a furnace.  Gary, one of our Australian friends would dispute this as he has walked somewhere where it was truly like a furnace.  Where was it Gary?  Cos I ain’t going there.  Anyway this was hot enough for me.  On the walk we noticed lots of eucalyptus trees all with bark stripped off.  Funny squiggly lines on the tree trunks which we subsequently und out were made by – wait for it ......yes the squiggly gum moth (Ogmograptis scribula).  Don’t you just love Australia.  The trees are called squiggly gum trees (Eucalyptus haemastoma), you can see all the bark that has fallen off the tree at the base.  The moth eggs are laid between the old and new bark, the larvae follows the sugar veins in the trees.  As the old bark falls away the feeding trails are revealed, where the trail ends is where the moth pupates.
