Passage To Hiva Oa in the Marquesas Islands Day 24

We left Puerto Ayora Galapagos Island heading for Hiva Oa in the Marquesas Islands at 08.00 am local time UTC (GMT) - 6 hours on Sunday the 18 Mach 2012.

Day 25 Distance to go, 74 miles.

Log reading now at noon 14810

Distance travelled noon to noon over the ground was 100 miles, through the water 99 miles.

Noon to Noon report on the 11th April 12

We have kept the cruising shoot up for the last 24 hours and the wind has been fairly steady at between 6 to 11 knots from astern.
We have had a fairly slow 24 hours hence the low distance travelled.

The sea state is now smooth to moderate with a swell running of about 1.50 m.

With the distance to go of only 74 miles, the trick is now to try to time our arrival just as dawn starts to break at Hiva Oa. Our chart plotter once you are within 24 hour of your destination starts to give an arrival time.

The arrival time is corrected as the boat speed changes, so we have had an arrival times from as early as 02.00 local time, to as I write this report 04.59. This may sound strange, but we hope the 04.49 is the correct prediction as this will be just as dawn starts, and we will be able to enter the anchorage in light and be able to see what we are doing when it comes to picking an anchor spot.

So hopefully the next report will be to let all those reading this blog that we have arrived at Hiva Oa.

Wildlife report

Just our old favourites, just flying fish and some sea birds, but not much else.
