Designed by architect Renzo Piano, and you can see why he won the contest when you saw the runner-up designs.  Beautiful building with lots of areas open to gardens outside.  Mostly housing art exhibitions.  Supposed to be some history of the indigenous Kanak people but, other than a couple of carved posts, not a lot in evidence.

Made of steel and wood (imported from Africa – Stephen most disgusted), the frames jut into the sky.  Under each is a so called hut – an exhibition room housing exhibits and libraries.

Kanak hut.  The chiefs has a carved pole coming out of the roof and usually a conch shell attached to the top. Some carvings from the inside of one of the huts.  They also usually have big wooden carved door steps.  The doorway also has carved posts.
