Franz Joseph
Position 43 23.143S 170 11.165E Franz Joseph glacier is the white blob in the distance. Me and a bit of water. Franz Joseph from afar! This is about as close as you could get without a guided tour. You can just make out the yellow string fence, look closely. Paul zoom in shot. The reason not able to see anything is the terminal moraine that sits at the spot where the glacier used to be in 2008. The pile of rubble in the foreground of the pictures above is where the glacier was in 2008. On my way to join Paul., I’d got stuck behind some tourists! One of which took this photo of him and me. This large rock fall to our left had created a big chasm which is now being extended by water, more interesting than the glacier. Like this shot because you can see nature in action. The rocks out of the main river sections are gradually covered with moss, might get a bit of sand settle in between the rocks. Bigger plants start to grow, settling their roots in the cracks between the rocks or in the moss. Next the trees will grow and leaf litter accumulate and gradually all that rock will be covered – as you see lower down in the valleys. Paul on the track, you can see the huge expanse of the river. Paul and I and a couple we met. Bach is slang term here for a holiday cottage – I think. |
