After viewing Fox Glacier we did a short detour down the road to Matheson Lake.  The guide books all say that this walk around the lake is a ‘must do’.  Apparently ‘it’s hard to imagine a NZ picture book without a photography of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman mirrored in its waters’.  Not so – it wasn’t reflecting anything the day we were here but, to be fair, you could imagine that you would get some great reflections.  Anyway over a swing bridge doing the haka, or as Paul said ‘having a pooh’ (Paul very happy) and dark and gloomy through the forest

Nice tree fern courtesy of Paul.

Lots of trees have these spiky leaves.  No idea what this one is but I like the leaves and the colour.

The not particularly mirror like lake!

The lake beyond the flax.

It got a bit warm. We haven’t taken off our walking boot, warm socks three layers since we got here.

Prince of Wales Feather Fern (Leptopteris superba).  The fronds taper at both ends.  Pretty.

Paul beside a wall of moss.

And trying to see his reflection.
