Ninety Mile Beach
Lakes Entrance is a fishing port, we’ve not really seen fishing boats since Eden. Good protection within the Lakes. This is Cunninghame Footbridge, rebuilt in 2008, a pedestrian access to ocean and ninety mile beach. This speaks for itself. Paul striding out on ninety mile beach. And pointing to: The seaward side of the dredging operation. Here’s the pipe with dredged sediment coming out: The pipeline led for about 3 km along the shoreline – buried but exposed in one place. The entrance, you can see ninety mile beach stretching out in the background. This is called the shipwreck bell! It used to be mounted on top of a wooden post near the entrance and was wrung when a ship went aground. Apparently it was wrung so hard on one occasion it fell off the post – they later found the post was rotten and was then moved to its present location. Anyway when the bell was rung – and presumably stricken vessel spotted – a line attached to a rocket was fired onto the flaying vessel. People were then pulled to safety using that chairs whose name I cannot remember. More views of ninety mile beach taken further along the coastline. |
