Walked the Snout track today.  Goes down part of the eastern edge of Queen Charlotte Sound to the end of one of the headlands.  Called the snout because according to Maori looks like the snout of  a NZ earthworm.  Great views along the ridge but it did go up and down.  This is Queen Charlotte lookout about 50mins into the walk.

Paul at Charlotte Sound Lookout.  There was a toilet here, the only reason I mention this is because we met the old age pensioner who had to hike the cleaning stuff in to clean the toilet.  She was loading herself up with products when we met her.  We expected to be overtaken by her at any moment.. rucksack and carrying 5 litre plastic container of something.  I digress.

Finally reached the snout – the track went down nearly to sea level before climbing back up and then descending again to the promontory.  Looking up the sound and Paul looking knackered.

Think this is a bell bird, rarelly seen but you heard all the time.  This guy was singing his heart out, you can see his puffed out chest. It is spring after all.
