Noon to Noon report on the 8th April 12

What a difference a day can make. The evening weather was full of very dark clouds some of which had rain under them. So as a precaution just before sunset about 18.00 boat time we decided to take down the cruising shoot.

Up to this time, the wind has been fairly steady at between 10 to 15 knots from astern, but now it was starting to change both speed and direction from Port to Starboard and back again as each cloud approaches and passes by. This wind direction changes continued all night. So we have had a very slow night under just white sails only, hence the reduction in distance over the last 24 hours.

The sea state is now smooth to moderate with a swell running of about 2.50 m.

Wildlife report

Rhu clams she saw a fin swimming next to our duogen, could this have been a shark? Otherwise it is our old favourites, just flying fish and some sea birds, but not much else.

Shipping report

None today.

Fishing report

The replaced fishing lure called a Rapala Skiterpop, coloured Pearl and Orange. This lure is supposed to imitate an injured fish on the surface.

According to the writing on the box, it imitates an injured fish and is particularly effective when fish are aggressively hunting on the surface.

Unlike the wood treatment product, it is still not doing what it said on the box!!

I think I am destined never to catch a fish again, so we wait and see yet again!!!

Fleet Positions

Karacool set off with us, and her position is 90 miles ahead of us.

Camelot set off on Tuesday and is now 401 miles behind us. Position received via Marita 3. Camelot have withdrawn from the radio net, claiming that reception is poor, and they are getting frustrated not hearing everybody very well. They are from Norway!!!

Marita 3 set off on Tuesday and is now 455 miles behind us.

Next report on the 9th April.
