Benalla (supposed to be Benalta but someone forgot to cross the t when the town’s name was registered – it’s true) and Shepparton were the closest towns to Emu Plains.  According to to the tourist office in Benalla it was also one of the places where Ned Kelly was jailed.

Shepparton has a really nice little art gallery with the most realistic sculpture of a woman and child you are ever likely  see – it was produced from a mould but nevertheless brilliant.  The gallery also a lot work from graduating art students and sells art work.  No guesses for what I did then.  Anyway, surrounding gallery are lots of cows ...

More cows

So cows figure highly in Shepparton, although the area is known or its fruit.  This would make a great Christmas card so don’t be surprised if you received one of these one year.

We spent a pleasant half hour trying to figure out the names of the film stars.

Benalla also had a small art gallery with nice little cafe and veranda overlooking small lake – this one wasn’t selling anything but coffee.
