Wandered around the CBD (central business district) in the morning.  All of the centre has been demolished after the earthquakes which culminated in February 2011.  Over 700 buildings have been demolished with another 100 to go. 

 

 

On the positive side, lots of inner city parking. 

 

 

Can’t really think of a negative – oh yes, lots of people homeless according to newspaper.  I bet house prices rocketed.  I really like the buildings tin roofs and wood.  In fact I’m already in love with NZ.  My Dad said that he wished he had come here as a young man and so do I, Dad. Cold though but then we have got used to 30s.  Pauls back already giving him pain.  Anyway, CBD has become a container town of businesses.  To me a great improvement, shame it cannot stay like this.  The lease is about to run out and the building commence.

 

 

Someone with a sense of humour and a couple of statues remain.
