10th February.
Annie arrived on 10th and we sailed to Isla Tigre. Karacool
overtaking us:
Isla Tigre is another Kuna village that Paul wanted to see –for comparison
sake. And what a nice comparison it was. People really friendly –
minor hassle to buy mola but not over the top. When we arrived we were
taken into the community hut, sat down, and charged 10$ per person to visit the
island. These huts are where the daily deliberations take place.
Each inhabited island has three chiefs – the man and then the man’s
assistance. They lie in hammocks in the middle of the hut whilst everyone
else is seated on benches. The island had a runway but it had not been
used in over two years. One of the children was killed by landing plane
and so since then chief he say No. The runway –just in case you have never
seen one like this before !
View of Isla Tigre from anchorage – spot Archie:
Closer up. The building on stilts in the right of the picture
(corrugated vertical roofing) houses pigs. No cleaning out these stys.
The human version:
One of the problems these islands have is rubbish. This is all swept
in from Caribbean sea asympton of global packaging:
The main street:
Kuna lady from whom I bought embroidered mola:
In case of rain – who needs a lamp shade:
Annie doing a bit of foraging amongst the undergrowth. Just remember
the snakes.
Isla Tigre had a small Kuna restaurant where we ate two nights
running. First night we all had a fried fish. each fish was
different.second night we had fried grouper.
Nice bit of natural sculpture.
