Mallacoota sand bar
Just before the rain set in we went for a walk along the sandbar at the entrance to the bay. Yesterday, a boat tried to get out from the bay into the ocean, tipped over and one of the four people on board died. A good reason for a dredged entrance. Here’s a couple of shots. The bar stretching out ahead. Paul on the bar. The bay mouth is in the distance to the right of Paul’s head. Paul at the end of the bar, entrance to the right. It was so much rougher than it looks. We’ve had a plague of these insects for about three days now. They are everywhere and are called the soldier beetle. They have just emerged after months under ground as larvae to mate. Part of the reason they are so numerous is because they are toxic to other animals so tend to be left alone. Paul getting hung up about his sun glasses. Looking back from the bar towards the campsite along the lake shore – somewhat emptier now. |
