Another striking tree we have seen in flower around Brisbane
is the royal poinciana (Delonix
regia). It has beautiful brilliant red flowers.
apparently there is also a yellow/orange variety but that is much rarer.
It’s another introduced species,a native of Madagascar. It’s also a member
of the pea family and on some trees you see large pea pods dangling
down.
Annie and Stephen take a bite.
Old Queensland house. Lovely window arches. I
overheard a couple of ladies talking about this house, saying how small it was,
easy to clean said one. It was about the size of both Paul’s Mum and my
Mum’s bungalows!
These photographs were all taken around a deceased wood mill
which closed in the 1950s. Red cedar was the main tree they were after,
grows nice and straight. A couple of tall trees would provide enough
planks to build a house. You can see the steps that were chopped out of
these trunks. The tree feller would climb up these steps and then chop the
tree down.
Views through piccabeen palms.
Here’s the end of a palm leaf- the pikka
(container).
This forest rangers job of the day was blowing the leaves off
the footpath.
Some views from D’Aguilar National Park. Another short
walk, but steep, to some water falls.
Some nice lichen.
We did a special detour for this national
monument...
and here it is ..
