King parrots (Alisterus
scapularis) are endemic to eastern Australia. These guys were
fed every day, originally one pair, by the time we left there were two pars
coming for munchies. They have a beautiful high pitched flute like chirp and we
would hear it in the morning and afternoon when they arrived. Paul had them
eating out of his hand, naughty. The males have the totally red head and the
females green.
Out driving one day Paul and I came across this flooded
woodland. It was all part of the Mokoan reservoir and now forms the Winton
wetlands. It was originally flooded to provide water for the area but also
developed into a big recreational area. A few years ago the Green party
won a petition to return to natural state. Since then the level of the
water has dropped and no recreation. The drowned woodland:
The first time we have seen the snake sign...
This yacht club on the reservoir used to be really
active. Now no sign of any dinghy's, Commodore or
Vice-Commodore.
The waters that the reservoir did impound.
You can see the drop in water level over the years and the
start of bush / tree regrowth.
Looking a bit green (and smelly) at the water’s
edge.
