Kings Canyon Resort is 300 km from Uluru.  Arrived about 3pm.  Contrast the National Park landscape

To the pasture.

To the burnt.  This area suffered from fires that swept through in the summer.  You can clearly see the desert beneath the plants.  Apparently aboriginals used to regularly set fire to the land as it encouraged new growth – much sweeter.  National Park management does the same and we have seen several controlled fires in the distance.

Remember that plant that I thought might be the paddy melon (Cucumis myriocarpus) well it is.  There are loads of them in different stages of ripeness along the road side.  Known to kill livestock.

It’s an invasive species from southern Africa.  It just spreads out across the ground.  Not seen anything eat them either.

We had visitors in the evening.  Cheeky raiding the rubbish bins, despite the bins opening backwards and being in wire coops.
