12/10/11 – 15/10/11 Puerto Mogan.

Arrived mid-morning, no response from harbour office so ‘drove’ straight in.  We were directed down very narrow gap to berth at end of row and anchored stern to, bow thruster conked out on final turn so a bit of yelling and running back and forwards.  I also managed to dump one of the stern lines in the water on the first throw – such is life.  Bit of a jump to the wall ladder.

Spotted cockroaches crawling over stern lines and lots dead around the harbour, so have tried spraying the lines to see if that will work.  Really pretty marina – it’s a holiday complex with separate self-catering apartments.  Obviously been built for a while as lots of bougainvillea.  Lots of shops and place is finished so not on a building site.  Surrounded by restaurants so Helen, Mark, Paul and I went out for a feast.  Hired a car for a couple of days.  Very windy roads up and down the ravines – Helen doesn’t like heights and she chose one of the routes.  At one of the picture stops we watched a car meet an articulated lorry (see below).

Car about to meet articulated lorry:

Car meets articulated lorry on the bend …

The car was occupied by Germans.  They pulled up at the stop we were out.  He stopped the car still in gear so it lurched forward.  They got out, the guy with the shakes, the woman and girls with the shakes and the girls promptly lit up.  They were really funny about their dice with death but you had to be there.

Oyster Moon stern to, harbour office towards back of picture.

Gran Canaria really pretty island with more vegetation than the other islands so far.  Paul and I went up into the pine forest, where we had a bit of relief from the heat.

Paul in the forest.

Me in the forest.. no Mickie I still have not lost any weight and yes it’s a skirt.

Spot the Hoopoe bird – there were a pair of them.  How do they go Susan?

Mark and I at the market – Helen and Paul were around somewhere, one presumably taking the photograph.
