18/9/11.  Day of rest.  So far, Paul has hosed out the bilges, rewired the petrol generator, electric grinder and extension lead –we had pinched the plugs for the electric toaster and something else that we bought in Portugal.  I’ve hovered and cleaned out beneath seats – got a freshwater leak coming from the water maker somewhere.  Paul has silicone one leaking nut and hopefully that is it.  There has been a nasty smell coming from the port side – where water maker is, and I’ve just discovered that the backs of the seats are all soaking wet and smelly.  They are drying outside as we speak.  Paul is spraying liberally with Dettol also as we speak.  He has now gone off in a huff to watch boat procession outside of harbour.  I couldn’t find boat key – it’s here somewhere but where?

19/9/11 Bused it into Funchal.  Nice cosmopolitan town, busy with cruise ships.  Market selling flowers and lots of passion fruit – there are apparently 14 (or was it 16?) different varieties.  Stallholders couldn’t give you enough of them, very expensive.   Weather is really overcast though and we have had rain several times.  Tasted the Madeira wine- the sweet was very sweet but the dry was nice.
